On July 10th, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, Charlotte Salvi, and his delegation.

Gong Zheng warmly welcomed the arrival of Prime Minister Salvi. He said that Vanuatu is a good friend, partner, and brother of China in the Pacific island region, and Shanghai is an important bridge for friendly exchanges between China and Vanuatu. Currently, Shanghai is accelerating the construction of a socialist modern international metropolis with global influence. The overall economic operation is stable and improving, while actively expanding opening up and strengthening international cooperation. Shanghai remains one of the most favored investment destinations for foreign investors and a preferred location for multinational corporations to layout their global industrial chains. We hope to take the opportunity of jointly building the high-quality development of the "the Belt and Road" to further strengthen the economic and trade cooperation, personnel exchanges, and tourism development between Shanghai and Vanuatu, to achieve high-level mutual benefit and win-win results, to seek greater well-being for the people of both places, and to make positive contributions to deepening the practical cooperation between China and Vanuatu.

Salvi said he is very happy to be back in the beautiful city of Shanghai. As early as 1994, the capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila, established a friendly relationship with Shanghai and formed a deep friendship. We hope that both sides can further strengthen cooperation in areas such as urban intelligence construction, rural economic development, ocean development cooperation, addressing climate change, and deepening sister city relations in the future. We welcome more Shanghai enterprises to invest and develop in Vanuatu, and more Shanghai tourists to visit Vanuatu for tourism and sightseeing. By strengthening economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges, we can further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Li Minggang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Vanuatu, Hua Yuan, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, Qian Bo, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government for Pacific Island Affairs, Lai Yueyang, Ambassador of Vanuatu to China, and Zhang Charlie, Consul General in Shanghai, attended the meeting.
